I thought if the transaction rejected it would be a SIGN and I could just go on pretending like I'd never made a decision to change my life.
I was looking for something different and fell into the trap of analysis paralysis which distracted me from my target goal of starting a Pharmacy related business.
You may have been thinking about joining the Academy for a while now, but still haven't pulled the trigger...
I completely understand, I've been there myself.
When I laid down my first $1500 for business coaching (I've since spent TENS OF THOUSANDS).
That day, however, I half-hoped the transaction would get rejected by my credit card and then nothing would have to change...
I thought if the transaction rejected it would be a SIGN and could just go on pretending like I never made a decision to change my life.
But it didn't.
It processed and so there I was in debt up to my eyeballs and now involved in yet another commitment.
But something in me SHIFTED once I felt my feet were set upon the right path.
I got excited about my life and career journey. Something that, I'm embarrassed to say, had not been something I'd been feeling for a while.
I went from feeling purposeless to PURPOSEFUL!
And so can YOU.
Today, you'll hear directly from three of our Phamapreneurial Leaders about their journey to becoming THE Pharmacist to Call.
Here is their stories:
1. What were your expectations before joining the Academy and coaching program? How did you feel before joining?
C.R. I was looking for something that could help me start working for my own dreams instead of my employers dream. Whether it was pharmacy or me just buying hard assets I knew something had to change so I started doing my research and came across your website. When I found your website I was really excited because I knew that your course could provide the knowledge I needed to start my own business in Pharmacy. I talked to a couple of colleagues before I purchased the course and just made the leap of faith.
T.J. I expected to learn about becoming a consultant pharmacist and getting paid for cognitive services. I was excited and eager to learn.
C.B. My expectations were that the e-course lessons and other member benefits would help me set up my own consulting business, would help me market my business, would help me market myself to providers (provider groups) that might hire me to help them care for their patients, would help me with contracting with the providers, and would help me start the new career I so longed for.
2. What holds pharmacists back from "doing it on your own"?
C.R. I wouldn’t say anything was holding me back from me doing it on my own. I knew this is what I wanted but before I bought your course, I immersed myself in real estate, finance and management books. I was looking for something different and fell into the trap of analysis paralysis which distracted me from my target goal of starting a Pharmacy related business.
T.J. I was not sure where to gather the information and quite frankly did not realize that pharmacist getting paid for services could be a lucrative practice. You were referred to me by another pharmacist and that's when my interest grew further.
C.B. What held me back from doing it myself was that I had no idea how to even start doing any of those things. I needed someone to guide me through the process, to help me make as few mistakes as possible, and to give me some confidence.
3. How have you changed since joining?
C.R. This course has helped me find my “why”. Since I’ve a graduated I’ve been looking for something where I could apply my clinical knowledge and start working for my own dreams. This course embodies that and more. It took me some time to start my own business, but I was able to make strategic partnerships, and now everything is falling into place as I build out my team for Chronic Care Management.
T.J. I am definitely more business minded and able to think outside the box.
C.B. I am much more confident in following my own thinking and judgment now. My business is formed, and I've done some marketing. I'm able to answer questions from pharmacists who want to start their own businesses. It makes me feel good to be able to help them or get them in touch with someone who could help them. I'm much more comfortable with networking now. As a matter of fact, networking is what got me my first and second contract with companies that I wanted to work with. I'm also talking with a third company because of networking.
4. What is your biggest takeaway?
C.R. My biggest takeaway is that there is a tremendous amount of opportunity for Pharmacists now with healthcare transitioning to value-based care. With that being said this course offers a lot of great knowledge so we can’t get stuck in that analysis paralysis phase. We must take action and pursue our “why”!
T.J. I realize now that Pharmacist can make an even bigger impact and get paid for doing it.
C.B. My biggest takeaway is that anyone who properly prepares himself to try to start a pharmacy consulting business can do just that! It's not impossible! It's entirely possible that it was just be the beginning of a very fulfilling career. You may not go in exactly the direction that you initially thought, but it can be a direction just as fulfilling or even more so.
5. Do you feel you've achieved the goal of "Becoming THE Pharmacist to Call"?
C.R. I feel I’m on the road to becoming “The Pharmacist to Call” and I’m excited to see where I’ll be at around this time next year.
T.J. I still have a lot to learn and need more hands on experience. But I now have the tools to do so.
C.B. I don't feel I've the goal of "Becoming THE pharmacist to call" for many things, but I have for a few smaller things. But with more experience and time, I may become THE pharmacist to call for a particular type of pharmacy consulting!
6. What are some possible negative consequences if pharmacists don't act on these opportunities and move forward with these types of services?
C.R. If you don’t take that leap of faith, if you don’t take the risk of pursuing your vision, 10 or 15 years from now you could be regretting that decision for years to come. If it was easy everyone would do it but it’s not. It’s going to take a lot of grit and grace, but the end result will be worth it. You’re going to fail multiple times and want to give up but it’s in our failures where we find our best lessons. With everything that value-based care has to offer the door has been opened for our profession to take on new and exciting roles. It’s our time and you don’t want to miss this opportunity.
T.J. We will continue to be under valued as an integral part of the healthcare team. Maximum benefits and cost savings will not be fully attained in the healthcare system. Pharmacists will not get paid for cognitive services and time spent like other healthcare professionals. We would have missed the bus. Now is the time! Thank you again for this opportunity. Because of the Academy I am truly a better, more informed professional ready to make an impact. Your genuine nature to care and inform is truly welcomed and needed. I am so proud of all the things you are doing to show that we can be more and do more in our constantly evolving healthcare system.
C.B. Some similarities that I've seen among members is the ability to keep going after a rejection or a re-thinking about what one wants to do. Some have gotten work the first time they asked, but most have eventually gotten work that they wanted. All business owners experience setbacks. Those are just learning opportunities -- opportunities to reconsider what or how one is doing certain things. The keys to success, I think, are to keep on pushing forward and asking for help when you need it.
These colleagues have worked hard to gain and apply this new knowledge and skills. The ultimate goal of the Pharmapreneur Academy is to train pharmacy leaders who will pave the way for our profession to break out of “the box” and into mainstream healthcare.
